Ralph Goltry was born in Kansas in 1884. After graduating from the Kansas City Art Institute in 1904 he toured the western United States for several years working as a sign painter. He settled in Phoenix in 1922 where he spent the remainder of his life. A founding member of the Phoenix Art Guild, he lived for many years in a two story house on 2nd Street in the downtown Phoenix area. A porch on the second story often functioned as his studio. During his career he painted many well known Phoenix area landmarks. Hallmark Cards of Kansas City purchased reproduction rights of a Goltry painting for three years in a row. He died in Phoenix in 1971. |
One of the Blue Coyote Gallery's primary objectives is to acquire biographical information about historically important Arizona artists. Background and biographical information about many of the deceased artists we represent is often very sketchy and limited at best. We are trying to acquire information before people who knew these artists personally are no longer around.
